Gautama

A 6th century BCE Shakya prince, Gautama Shakyamuni renounced his heritage, became an ascetic spiritual teacher, was the founder of the Buddhist religion and created a path to enlightenment through the absence of craving, suffering, ignorance and rebirth. The name Shakyamuni is the Buddha’s clan and means “the sage of the Shakya.”
