Varada

Varada or the Wish Granting Mudra is the hand gesture representing generosity, granting wishes, charity and compassion, it symbolizes the granting of favors or requests and represents attaining the wish to devote oneself to human salvation. It is made with the left hand extended downward palm facing out with the five extended fingers representing the five perfections: generosity, morality, patience, effort and concentration. It is generally combined with another mudra with the right hand, typically the Abhaya mudra, and is used extensively in Southeast Asian statues. It is used mostly for standing Buddhas, but can be also used for the seated position. Lakshmi is sometimes portrayed in Varada Mudra.
