Lark has been deeply influenced by Sumi-e, the Japanese art of creating simple elegant forms to express the timeless beauty and complexity of the natural world. Inspired by Sumi-e, she meditates to center herself before beginning a work in order to be in a state of what she calls “no mind.”

“I begin with spontaneous movements of my instruments, usually not brushes that make me over think,” Lark explains. “After that I love to experiment and see what happens. My best creations take place in a state of no mind.”
