Description

This large painting reflects a recurring theme in Lark’s work: to visualize and validate self determination and the ability to follow one’s passions with a sense of joy and optimism.  States Lark: “This painting represents for me the multi-color, liquid and ever changing moments of life. It also shows the possibility for us to make our own decisions, to rise above commonplace surrounding events and circumstances.” Her optimism fosters an ebullient wish for us to “be happy in the cherry blossom season of our lives.”

The iconic portal seen in many of her works—here depicted as a central rounded structure—provides depth and invites viewers into the painting where they can escape from the challenges of everyday life into the uplifting spiritual realms. This solitary experience can elevate each of us to our innate potential.

The mood of this painting is reflected in the following lines from an original Lark poem:

 

Just before the sun turned away its face

The flock of lilac clouds flew in                                  

And settled on the edge of the mountains,     

Touched by the lemon glow.           

And I was alone…
