Collage of Acrylic with Mixed Media of Found Objects

The partial violin in this large collage was inspired by a European concert Lark attended with her husband, where the violin player smashed his violin on stage, possibly imitating the The Who’s lead guitarist Pete Townsend.

Description

Since the beginning of her art career, Lark has masterfully played with a variety of materials, textures and surfaces to unique effect. In a wonderful example of the visual stories she orchestrates through her work, here a partial violin hovers over an outdoor reflecting pool that mirrors the clouds in the sky overhead. The pool and atmospheric light above invite us to symbolically swim in the transforming music of human experiences.

This work was in part inspired by a European concert Lark attended with her husband, where the violin player smashed his instrument on the stage, possibly imitating the Pete Townsend, the lead Guitarist for The Who. (Lark often accompanies her husband, an internationally known classical music critic, to concerts worldwide.) This large collage draws directly from her love of these elevated musical experiences.

As Lark musically reflects in an original poem:

I am an instrument

By God created

To sound an intrinsic note

Which sounds in the Symphony of Love,

And will not be completed

Without me
