Description

Lark created her California Shores series as an homage to J.M.W. Turner, the English Romantic artist known as “the painter of light.” Like Turner—whose brilliant use of color is the main component in his landscapes and seascapes—Lark emphasizes atmospheric sensibilities and energy created by the convergence of water, air and sun.

As seen here, her paintings often feature a glowing “natural” light with luminous colors and atmospheric skies, for which she turns inward for emotional inspiration. She experiments with a wide array of painting techniques to create texture, intensify colors, add movement to the surface and engage the viewer.  Here the depiction of the sun is energized by the application of viscous paint directly from the tube and smashing it onto the canvas.
