Description
This small, yet powerful acrylic painting on archival board is from Lark’s California Shores series. Lark created this group of paintings as an homage to J.M.W. Turner, the English Romantic artist known as “the painter of light.” As seen in Turner’s paintings, Lark’s landscapes and seascapes emphasize the brilliance of light and color.
The various spontaneous paint gestures here enliven the painting’s surface, adding an energy and movement that invite the viewer to spend more time engaging with it. The surface is enlivened with bright hues applied in a variety of ways such as using rapid bold strokes, applying paint directly from the tube and scratching through areas of paint.
