This is one of a pair of framed acrylic paintings by Lark embracing the energy of the “Buddha in Bliss.” Here the red highlights of his feet and sleeves hint at his energetic spirit and the joyous celebration of life he shares with us all.
Lark has been deeply influenced by Sumi-e, the Japanese art of creating simple elegant forms to express the timeless beauty and complexity of the natural world. Inspired by Sumi-e, she meditates to center herself before beginning a work in order to create out of a state of what she calls “no mind.”
“I begin with spontaneous movements of my instruments, usually not brushes that make me over think,” Lark explains. “After that I love to experiment and see what happens. My best creations take place in a state of no mind.”
