Description

Fu lions are auspicious mythical animals used as decorative motifs on accessories, furnishings, architectural structures and as free-standing inside and outdoor figures s. Carved red and gilt lacquered lions appeared everywhere as auspicious symbols of protection, harmony, fu (the Five Blessings or Happinesses) and high rank. Based on the cut-outs underneath, this pair of antique  carvings were likely part of a woman’s bed frame to bless and protect its occupants. Each holds a spherical  5-leaf plum blossom.  a symbolic wish for the 5 blessings of health, wealth, longevity, a virtuous life and a peaceful death. The plum blossom is also a symbolic wish for passing tough exams to become a civilian official leading to prestige, a good family income and wealth.  Mounted on a frosted acrylic stand, they are in excellent condition and will be a unique accessory to usher in good fortune and feng shui to any room.
