Pair of red and gold antique carved lions were likely part of a woman’s bed frame to bless and protect its occupants. Each holds a spherical 5-leaf plums as wish for 5 Blessings of Happiness and for passing civilian official exams. Acrylic base.
Description
Carved red and gilt lacquered lions appeared everywhere in Chinese art as auspicious symbols of protection, harmony the Five Blessings or Happinesses (health, wealth, longevity, a virtuous life and a peaceful death) and high rank. Based on the cut-outs underneath, C Mounted on a frosted acrylic stand, they are in excellent condition.
