This striking portrait is an homage to Soviet Armenian film director Sergei Parajanov, one of the great filmmakers of the 20th century. Here Anush’s spiritualized representation depicts his virtuous life, with angel wings ascending to the heavens in a glowing aura bathed in a spiritual light.
Description
This brilliant painting is an homage to Sergei Parajanov (1924 – 1990), a Soviet Armenian film screenwriter and director known for his surreal cinematic style. He is widely regarded by film critics, historians and filmmakers as among the greatest of all time.
Here Anush depicts Sergei as a kind of saintly and heroic figure, as he ascends to the heavens on angel wings cascading upward in a glowing aura and bathed in spiritual light. The luminous depiction concurs with the reflections of Jean-Luc Goddard on Parajanov’s enormous impact on world cinema: “In the temple of cinema, there are images, light and reality. Sergei Parajanov was a master of that temple.
