Description
This brilliant painting is an homage to Sergei Parajanov (1924 – 1990), a Soviet Armenian filmmaker known for his surreal cinematic style. He is widely regarded by film critics, historians and filmmakers as among the greatest directors of 20th century.
Here Anush depicts Sergei as a kind of saintly and heroic figure, ascending to the heavens on angel wings in a glowing aura and bathed in spiritual light. Her luminous depiction concurs with the reflections of Jean-Luc Goddard on Parajanov’s enormous impact on the world of film: “In the temple of cinema, there are images, light and reality. Sergei Parajanov was a master of that temple.”
