Coral

Although most gemstones are mineral, coral is an organic calcium carbonate created from coral polyps (tissue) living in tropical oceans. After the polyps perish, a hard bone-like material survives from which gemstones are made. Red Coral is also called Precious Coral and is the most popular and striking color used for jewelry even through coral is more commonly white and many other colors are also produced.
