Lakshmi

Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu one of the 3 major Hindu gods (trimurti), is the goddess of wealth, prosperity, youth and beauty. she is often depicted on oil lamps (diya) in a yoga posture on a double lotus with four arms flanked by an elephant with raised trunks pouring water over her symbolizing her ability to provide fertility, abundance, prosperity and good luck. She promises devotees both material and spiritual attainment and personal charm and is particularly popular due to her connection with Diwali, the festival of light, which celebrates the victory of light over darkness or good over evil. The third and most festive day of Diwali is dedicated to Laxmi who represents both material and spiritual wealth. Lakshmi is also found in Jain temples, early Buddhist stupas and cave temples.
