Mateb

A mateb is a blue cotton thread or tri-colored woven cord worn around the neck throughout life to suspend an Ethiopian Cross pendant that is often presented during baptism. One of the earliest symbols of Christian faith in the Ethiopian Orthodox religion the three strands white, red and black symbolizes the Trinity.
