Rosary

Rosary, a Sanskrit word, it is a string of usually 108 beads in a garland that is used in meditation and in some religions to count mantras, prayers, intentions or breaths to keep one’s mind focused and clear from distractions. In Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, Guanyin is often seen with a rosary that enables her to call upon the Buddha Amitabha for aid in delivering devotees to reach enlightenment and invoke the Buddha of the Ten Quarters to swiftly welcome sentient beings into the Pure Land Paradise upon their death. The beads are said to embody nirvana (enlightenment) and represents all sentient beings, symbolizes her devotion to Buddhism and reminds sentient beings to recite her mantra Om Mani Padme Hum for attention to and the attainment of Enlightenment. Each bead represents all living beings which, when turned, symbolizes Guan Yin freeing them from of their state of misery and repeated rounds of rebirth into enlightenment. Hindu deities such as Ganesh are sometime portrayed with a rosary.
