Wall Pocket

According to collectorsweekly.com, wall pockets vases are flat-backed ceramic vases with top holes designed to be hung on a wall. The idea of mounting containers on walls to make frequently used items more accessible has existed for many years, and earlier versions were wall-mounted wooden boxes to hold candles, matches, or eating utensils, and cloth pockets to hold sewing tools such as thread, scissors and thimbles. With the spread of porcelain pottery throughout Europe in the late 18th century, decorative wall pockets, or “wall vases,” became regular home fixtures. In China green glazed wall pocket chopsticks holders in many shapes made in Shiwan were found in most Chinese kitchens, often with auspicious symbols representing fertility.
