Barry Brinker Necklace with Thaler Coin Pendant, Vintage European Fittings #N370KEM

This necklace is part of the VA Barry Brinker Vintage Collection acquired in the early 2000’s. Pieces in this collection are one-of-a-kind jewelry using 950 German silver with antiquities,  antiques, artifacts, gemstones, coins and other treasures acquired during his travels. These pieces were created in his Bali studio by expert silversmiths following his specific instructions. The pendant here is a re-strike of a 1760 thaler, set in a high rimmed silver frame with top suspension loops.  Thalers are among the many large, high-content and quality silver coins minted in the German states and territories of the Holy Roman Empire and the Habsburg monarchy during the Early Modern period. Thalers have  about 40 mm diameter and weigh about 25 to 30 grams. The 1760 thaler was re-struck many times with a bust of Maximillian III Joseph (the Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire and the Duke of Bavaria) on the front and the crowned Madonna and Child above clouds holding and imperial orb and scepter with the date 1760 on the back as in this pendant. The words Patrona Bavariae mean “Protector of Bavaria” and refer to the Duke Maximillian Joseph as well as Christ and the Madonna. The rolo style 21” silver chain of oval and round links holds three sets of vintage French fittings above and a matching silver oval dangling below. It has a hook closure with the Barry Brinker (BB) signature flame shaped tag as part of the clasp. This versatile piece can be used with any attire,
