Coptic

Widely used in the Coptic and Ethiopian and Eritrean Churches, Coptic crosses serve as the foundation for and are sometimes considered synonymous with Ethiopian crosses. Used in the Coptic Church this type of cross is made up of two lines of equal length that intersect at the middle at right angles. Each line ends in three points that represent the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Older Coptic crosses sometimes included a centered or top circle, which, in the Coptic Church, represents the eternal and everlasting love of God that is demonstrated in Christ’s Crucifixion and resurrection, a central belief in Coptic doctrine. Coptic crosses rarely include the body of Christ.
