The Otherworldly Paintings of Anush Babayan

What world, or universe, does Anush Babayan inhabit? It is one strange and alienating and at the same time eerily familiar….Can we see the far end of another man or woman any easier than we can the far end of the firmament? Anush Babayan’s paintings may lose us in the stars, but their biggest revelation is that the stars are within us, that every human is a cosmic mystery. For all the glorious luminescence of her elusive renditions, Babayan’s preoccupation is with her own species and its own radiance.

Her highly sought after paintings employ the use of Chinese brushes and mineral pigments on rice paper in a singular, instantly recognizable style that merges philosophy, poetry and cosmic exploration. Her work has been exhibited in over 50 solo and group exhibitions across Armenia, Russia, France, the U.S., Italy, Switzerland, Canada, Lebanon and beyond. She is a member of both the International Foundation of Armenian Artists and the Union of Artists of Estonia.

Babayan’s paintings are widely regarded for their meditative and healing qualities, often described by psychotherapists as visual prayers. Through her art, she invites collectors into a space of introspection, harmony, and timeless beauty—each piece serving as a portal between the inner and outer cosmos.
