Antique/Vintage Ethiopian Coptic Fleury Cross with Textured Surface (E339DCE)
$175.00
Description
No other region has produced the quantity, quality, and diversity as the pendant crosses from the Ethiopian Highlands in Africa, an area renowned for its unique African metalwork. This Fleury Cross is a floriated trefoil cross which is a cross with the end of each arm splayed out into three pointed lobes with decorative clusters. The decorative clusters of three bosses on this pendant cross, its tri-partite designs and repetition of the motifs on the arms three times represent the Trinity and reflects the relationship between God and humanity. The body of the cross is centered with a square and embellished with parallel rows of small granulates which results in a wonderfully textured surface. Made using the lost-wax technique from coin-silver with an attached suspension-loop allowing a chain or cord to be threaded through it, this cross with fine patina is a one-of-a-kind piece. The chain is not included.
