Lakshanas are the 32 Buddhist “auspicious marks” (physical traits) described throughout the Pali canon that serve as a model to depict images of the Buddha and by which he can be recognized. The lakshanas include golden skin; wide bluish eyes; well-formed nose; fine, black hair with soft curls; elongated body and face; long arms, fingers, hands and ears; a tuft of hair between the eyebrows (urna), and a knot of hair on the top of the head (ushnisha).

Its very large base is as tall and wide as the image, reflecting Laotian beliefs that a high pedestal reflects a deep respect for the Buddha. A base has been added for display purposes.
