The urna on her forehead is a third eye and indicates an enlightened being and her ability to look past the ordinary world of suffering into the divine world. The smooth wide cheeks and high forehead are topped by individual strands of finely defined hair. Portrayed as White Robed Guanyin, she has a high bun chignon atop her head, her face framed by an by an open hood revealing the central image of Buddha Amitabha centered by a mandorla surrounding an image of Buddha Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, her spiritual teacher, from which rays of light emanate.  In Pure Land Buddhism, Guanyin is Amitabha’s companion guiding the deceased to the Western Paradise.
