This antique male puppet head was carved from a single piece of wood, and like most puppets, has a tapering neck. With a well carved calm, peaceful expression, downcast eyes and half-smile, it could have been for either religious or secular purposes. The thin ridge on his forehead indicates it was likely used for various of roles in different stories.

This brilliant set of three Ming dynasty attendants – one male and two female – are in a unique category of refinement and elegance that reflects the importance and high status of the tomb, the deceased and the family that commissioned them. Standing on hexagonal bases with arms folded below their chests and presenting offerings to the deceased, their clothing and parts of the bases have a rare cobalt blue glaze for burial objcts, two have yellow glazed areas and all have painted unglazed areas. Their removable heads are highly detailed and beautifully modeled fitting inside high collars. These figures are presented and sold as a remarkable set reflecting their original presentation and condition.

This simple, elegant beautifully shaped footed porcelain bowl is thinly crafted with a monotone coral saffron glaze on the outside and a grayish-white glaze on the inside. It has a rather high and deep foot and the bottom has a fading red stamped seal of an unknown kiln. It is in excellent condition and some minor pitting inside the bowl caused by gases escaping from the clay body during the firing cycle. Likely from the Togzhi Period 1862-1874.

This gazed stoneware lidded bowl rests on a solid well-cut foot and has a close-fitting cover. The lid’s center has a lotus bud handle with a surrounding linear medallion on the top. Alternating panels have underglaze brown crosshatching and vegetal scrolls beginning on the lid, continuing below to the body and each pane separated by a series of vertical and circular lines.

This stoneware Sawankhalok lidded jar was made in the famous Sukhothai kilns in Thailand in the 14-15th century. The distinctive local Thai design is unique in the history of ceramic making as seen in this elegant mangosteen shape lidded jar with curved stem handle and a round raised calyx, and stylized incised floral and geometric designs. The lid has a circle of radiating leaf-like projections that protects a developing flower and represents a mangosteen, the delicious sweet tropical fruit loved throughout Southeast Asia. This is truly a remarkable example of the power and grace of antique Thai ceramics. A similar piece can be seen in the renowned Powerhouse Digital Archive Collection.

This delicate Meiji single serving Kyo Ware teapot with a high handle ,like all antique Kyo pieces was hand thrown and hand-painted. This small, striking teapot was fired to create a luminescent beige color with a crackled glaze resulting in a glowing radiance and has the Kiyomizu kiln seal where it was made on the bottom. The chrysanthemum (kiku in Japanese) in a basket in blue and red on the body and lid symbolizes longevity and rejuvenation. . Production of Kyo ware is limited, making it highly collected worldwide.
