Description
No other region has produced the quantity, quality, and diversity as the Christian cross from the Ethiopian Highlands in Africa, an area renowned for having accepted Christianity early in its history and its fine African art and metalwork. This Coptic Cross pendant features two stylized birds under the top circular portion artistically and spiritually transform the Cross into the Tree of Life associated with the beginning of humanity and end of time, provided wood for the True Cross and will appear at the time of humanity’s return to paradise. It also defines the unique lineage of the Ethiopian people to the biblical Queen of Sheba. The triangular finials on arms represent the Trinity and also contain an etched circle symbolizing protective eyes that bring personal blessings to the wearer and deflect misfortune, repel evil forces and harm and avert the “evil eye.” The center of the pendent is a cross pattée, with flared even sized arms. Made using the lost-wax technique using coin silver with an attached suspension loop, this Ethiopian cross with fine patina is one-of-a-kind. Chain is not included.
