This lovely 20th century Thai bronze statue is the White Clad Guanyin seated in meditation with her hands in her lap holding her vial of precious dew with her legs covered by her robes which flow to the top of the finely rendered multi-tiered lotus throne. Her open hood is centered by a mandorla surrounding an image of Buddha Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, her spiritual teacher. She is a vision of compassionate serenity with her half closed eyes and benevolent smile.

Description

This lovely 20th century Thai bronze statue is Guanyin, Goddess of Infinite Mercy and Compassion who hears the cries of the oppressed. She sits in meditation (dhyana mudra)  hands in the lap holding her sacred vase containing amitra the sacred dew of compassion, healing and immortality that represents humanities’ tears and her the never ending compassion. Her thumbs touch forming a triangle symbolizing the Triratna – Three Gems of Buddhism:  the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddha’s teachings), and the Sangha (community of monks). Her legs are covered by her robes, the end of which descends to the base of the finely rendered round multi-tiered lotus throne (padmapitha). Portrayed as White Robed Guanyin, she has a high bun chignon with finely carved individual strands of hair, covered by an open hood centered by a mandorla surrounding an image of Buddha Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, her spiritual teacher, from which rays of light emanate. With her head slightly lowered, half closed eyes, face framed by her pendulous elongated ears which extend to the shoulders and lips in a benevolent half smile, she is a vision of compassionate serenity. The urna on her forehead is a third eye and indicates an enlightened being and her ability to look past the ordinary world of suffering into the divine world. The metalwork image, which was made using the lost wax process as one-of-a-kind Buddhist Statues.
